Vox Pacifica Statement on Black Lives Matter
Vox Pacifica reaffirms its commitment to embracing diversity, building community, and bringing support and inclusion to the most marginalized among us. Our new choral group is dedicated to empowering and inspiring our singers and our audiences through musical performance. We realize however, that this work does not end at the stage door.
Current events lay bare the broad dysfunction of the justice system in our country and the powerful realization that history lives in the present. We recognize the ongoing burden of racism in America that people of color and indigenous people bear, and that no one is free from the threat created by this nation’s deeply rooted history of systemic racism. We all have a lot to learn, and unlearn.
Vox Pacifica stands in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement, the Black community as a whole, and with all who work tirelessly to bring about racial equality. We recognize that a public statement of support is only the first step in a much larger body of work. We are committed to raising our voices to call for justice and we will strive to be active participants in our community in the ongoing process of promoting truth and reconciliation.
We are committed to growing, learning, and changing and we will work every day to earn our place as an inclusive member of our community. Together we will work towards creating change and understanding so that the dignity and worth of every person is affirmed.
